This site reads the news, and the news is only part of the record. It arrives late, it thins out exactly when communications are cut, and it rarely reaches the valley or village where something actually happened. The people who live there do, and what they can tell is the part no feed will carry.

If you live in Kashmir

You know what a shutdown, a cordon, or a closed road means day to day. That texture never makes it into a wire report.

If you are diaspora

Family news travels through you first, often days before anything is published, and sometimes it is never published at all.

If you work there

Journalists, medics, aid workers, teachers, lawyers: you see the parts of an event that end before a reporter arrives.

What happens to what you send

Nothing is published automatically. Accounts are not fed into the map or the event feed. A person reads them.
Your permissions decide what is possible. If you do not tick the boxes, your account is read and kept private: not quoted, and not contacted about.
Your email is never shown on the site and is not passed to anyone else.
Write only what is safe for you to write. Nothing here is a secure channel. Leave out anything that could identify someone at risk, and use a first name only if that is safer.
